Promoting KDE: KWin tiling in KDE SC 4.5
In a previous post I had given a hint for KWin Tiling.
I’m now using KDE 4.5 beta2, which is *quite* stable -with a few known bugs though- and … beautiful (check out the new Air Plasma theme along with the new Blur effect).
Tiling Windows is a very effective way to have your windows aligned especially if your needs (programming) or desktop (netbooks) require multiple windows displayed together in a limited space.
Let’s see now how can KWin Tiling be enabled with a set of screenshots.
(The system theme, icons and fonts are custom and not the default ones).
Note: This applies only to KDE 4.5 and later versions.
1. Open System Settings
2. Navigate to Window Behavior
3. Go to the Window Behavior submenu and then press the “Advanced” tab
4. Press the “Enable Tiling” checkbox and then configure the Tiling Settings according to what you like and press Apply
5. Voilà

Which theme of KDE is this?
Is the new aria? With those buttons?
You mean the plasma theme ?

However I meant the system style, colors and icons…

P.S.: The osx-style menubar is a new option of KDE 4.5, or you have added a plasmoid or something similar?
@kottin: It’s the bespin menubar. You install bespin-svn and then, alongside with the KDE theme, you install a Xbar plasmoid, which does all the work… 🙂

I absolutely love your theme. I normally dislike lookalikes, but this is really exceptional. I’ve always kept my KDE look as stock as possible, because all the styles out there lacked depth.
However, you’ve managed to bring out that depth from configuring Bespin, so keep it up!
I’m sure we would all like a bundled theme pack, but if you’re not up to it, the following would be just fine:
* Bespin configuration file
* Colour scheme file
* Name of KWin window decorator style
And also, is that dock a standard KDE panel?
I found all of them, randomly, on KDE-look.org. The bespin theme is a bit tweaked by me, for example, I liked the buttons to be raised instead of sunken. This can be easily configured within the Bespin’s config.

The dock down there is Docky. I have installed docky-bzr, and it is the only dock I find … usable and stable. It hasn’t got to do with KDE at all, since it has gnome deps.

How well does this work now? For example I would like to have xmonad/awesome type shortcuts for it can I do that yet? Last I tried it (around March 2011) it didn’t work so well.
