Froyo on HTC magic: an interesting guide

Android 2.2 "Froyo"

A friend of mine has an HTC Magic and would really like to read this guide over here, written by gtklocker:

Want FroYo on your HTC Magic? Yes, you can.

Android 2.2 is *really* good, even on an average smartphone. Take a look and try that if you have time.

mmmmh…. have froyo (cyanogen) on HTC dream… faster than 2.1 but still very slow compared to less powerfull iphone. Seen froyo on HTC desir…. still slow.

Many bugs, browser way more unstable…
java was a bad idea… *very* bad idea. But once stabilized, it should do it on nuclear mobile phones (at least 1Ghz, near 1 GB of ram, yes for a mobile device such requirements are *a shame*).

Framework should have been written in pure C, re-using all the GNU C libs out there (and all bloat lovers would have had their bindings for their preferred bloat).

Anyway, meego is on it’s way, it’s seems less worse on the paper (C++ mandatory instead of java) but still… it should be C with bindings.

That’s *my* opinion but hey! It’s great to have open source mobile platforms! Since it’s just the beginning and those buy us *time* to achieve a neat open source mobile platform.
